Kung-Fu and The Shaolin Temple

shaolin-1076522_960_720The Shaolin Temple is home to the martial art style of Shaolin Kung-Fu. Shaolin Kung-Fu is one of the Northern styles of martial arts. In its generic term, “kung-fu” means “skill” or “ability,” in which any person can possess. It is a system style which consists of combat, health development, and dance.

It is said by martial art scholars Donn F. Draeger and Robert W. Smith that there are over four hundred styles of kung-fu taught and practiced throughout China’s history. The kung-fu styles are classified by geographical region, philosophy, religious tenets, and technical motions. The martial art style has three main types: for fighting, for show, and for health (The Martial Art Companion).
