Managing Your Diet During the Holiday Season
Did you know that during holiday eating you can gain up to ten to fifteen pounds during the holiday season if you are not watching what you eat and taking care of your body in a healthy way during the time of the season?
To be able to maintain you diet and a healthy weight in which you are at right now during the holiday season, I shall share you some tips below in which will be able to help you out with managing your holiday season.
Have you heard of the 40/30/30 rule?
40/30/30 represents what should be on your plate while you are eating during the holiday season. 40% protein, 30% vegetables (or you can split this in half so you can have 15% vegetables and 15% fruit), 30% good carbs (the whole grains, like brown rice, sweet potato, that type of stuff). White potato is a vegetable, but it is also a starch. So, white potato is not a healthy choice for you as opposed to a sweet potato.
A sweet potato will give you energy, as opposed to a white potato which will make you feel full and more fat, and it will slow you down. It’s better to eat a sweet potato than a white potato during the holiday season, also because sweet potatoes are in season. Sweet potatoes are a better choice for you as opposed to a white potato. During the holiday season, remember the 40/30/30 rule… 40% meat, 30% vegetables and fruits combined, and 30% the good carbs (the whole grains… brown rice, whole grain bread). If you’re into the carbs, eat whole grain food.
When it comes to drinking,… for those who drink alcohol during the holiday season, limit yourself. The best way to limit yourself is to make a spritzer out of what you are drinking. That way you will be adding water and ice – it’s downsizing it a bit, but it’s a more healthier option for you as opposed to drinking straight alcohol.
To be able to maintain your healthy weight and a healthy diet during the holiday season, I hope these tips have helped you and may help you as the season goes in full swing during the next month and the month after and the month after that, being that it’s New Years.
