Working With Weapons, The Staff
Working With Weapons, The Staff.
The very first weapon I ever held in my hands was a staff, which is a long wooden bamboo stick in which you do forms with and also spar with in Sil-Lum Kung-Fu.
Being that I was just starting out in Sil-lum Kung-Fu as a white belt, the first form I learned was for the yellow belt, which has nine moves. I picked up this staff form very quickly, as it reminded me of my six-years of baton lessons that I took when I was a kid. The only difference is that the staff is about 6 feet long, and the baton is 2 feet. Oh, and also, the staff is wooden bamboo and the baton is metal. So, when it came to working with the staff, it was second nature and I was pretty fast with it.
For a visual aid, the staff is in the 3rd video of this PicPlayPost, however that is not the forms in Sil-lum Kung-fu I am doing. It is the double element drills I am doing in Emperor’s Long Fist in the video (which leads into doing it with a sword in the next rank of ELF).
