How I Got Into Martial Arts
One of my bosses I worked with at my undergraduate school got me into martial arts. He said that he thought I would like it. I started in 2002 in Boone, N.C., at the Blue Ridge Kung-fu Arnis Academy. I graduated from undergraduate school in 2005 and periodically after that I would attend classes, but working full-time took my time away from it.
I moved in 2007 to Roanoke, V.A., to attend graduate school. I had
a few problems, which deterred me from starting graduate school until 2009 at Hollins University, where I studied Screenwriting. I graduate in October 2015. My thesis is a martial art screenplay; I learned with screenwriting that you write what you know.
In 2008, I began martial arts again at Lindamood’s Tae Kwon Do Academy, which is now called Lindamood’s Martial Art Center. I was attending classes on a regular basis until 2011. I’ve been going periodically ever since. I am struggling to get that black belt, which is one away, in Tae Kwon Do, due to financial – and other – reasons. And if there is one thing I learned throughout my martial art career, DON’T GIVE UP! It’s going to take some time to get that black belt, but I WILL get it.
So, here I am, wanting to help others who are in the same bout as I am. I know what it feels like.
All thanks to my boss….
