About Coach Colleen Burns

About Coach Colleen Burns

About Coach Colleen Burns.

The purpose of Colleen’s Martial Art Corner is to provide you with the daily motivation and inspiration to get you through your daily struggles in your martial art journey. I know from personal experience within my martial art career there are emotional struggles and obstacles. I know what that feels like. What I have found, however, that keeps me going, is a positive attitude and outlook on life in general.

How you react to life in general is how you react and progress in your martial art training. You must have to deal with “the school of hard knocks,” as that is life, and also literally in a kwoon, dojo, etc. You learn to be persistent, consistent, and you also learn how and when to get up and stay down. You learn when to swing and not to swing. But most of all, you learn to remain true to yourself, no matter what you may encounter within your martial art training and life in general.

May Colleen’s Martial Art Corner serve you and provide you with the tips I mention in the video above, to better improve your martial art training, journey, and lifestyle and you yourself to be the best person you can be!

The 6 Martial Art Styles I Know and Their History

The 6 Martial Art Styles I Know and Their History

One of my bosses I worked with at my undergraduate school got me into martial arts. He said that he thought I would like it. I started in 2002 in Boone, N.C., at the Blue Ridge Kung-fu Arnis Academy. I graduated from undergraduate school in 2005 and periodically after that I would attend classes, but working full-time took my time away from it.

I moved in 2007 to Roanoke, V.A., to attend graduate school. I had
a few problems, which deterred me from starting graduate school until 2009 at Hollins University, where I study Screenwriting. I graduate in October 2017. My thesis is an autobiography. I learned with screenwriting that you write what you know. So I write martial art screenplays.

In 2008, I began martial arts again at Lindamood’s Tae Kwon Do Academy, which is now called Lindamood’s Martial Art Center. I was attending classes on a regular basis until 2011. I’ve been going periodically ever since. I am struggling to get that black belt, which is one away, in Tae Kwon Do, due to financial  – and other – reasons. And if there is one thing I learned throughout my martial art career, DON’T GIVE UP! It’s going to take some time to get that black belt, but I WILL get it.

So, here I am, wanting to help others who are in the same bout as I am. I know what it feels like.

All thanks to my boss….
